ATLAS for AGTS Alumni/ae
AGTS alumni can now access ATLAS through a special arrangement with EBSCOhost. Contact Rick Oliver at roliver@agts.edu or email your request to library@agts.edu and you will be provided with a specific URL along with a Username and Password that will enable you to log in to the database. Access to this database is restricted to AGTS alumni.
What is ATLAS?
ATLAS is an online collection of major religion and theology journals selected by leading religion scholars and theologians. Users can read articles or research the history of a topic from as early as 1924 to the present. Currently, researchers are able to use ATLAS as a search tool to retrieve the full text of more than 285,300 articles and book reviews in more than 140 different journals. Articles are available in PDF format with searchable text. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association. A list of available periodicals can be viewed at the ATLA website.
What is the ATLAS for Alum Program?
The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) is able to offer the ATLAS for ALUM program due to a grant provided by Lilly Endowment Inc. Due to its membership in ATLA and accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), AGTS qualifies for a multi-year grant to make ATLAS available to our alumni.As a participant in this program, our alumni will be able to log in to ATLAS through EBSCO using a separate password than our current students use. This access will be free for AGTS for the next three years (the length of the grant).
Why use ATLAS?
ATLAS is a potentially valuable tool for continued research utilizing scholarly and peer reviewed journals and publications. This database could also help in sermon preparation as exegetical articles are indexed and can be searched by specific scripture passages.
Topics covered by the articles in this database include: Bible, archaeology, and antiquities; human culture and society; church history, mission, and ecumenism; pastoral ministry; world religions and religious studies; and theology, philosophy, and ethics
