Policies and Resources Handbook

The AGTS Library Handbook provides all of the basic information you need to know concerning the Library's Circulation Policies and other policies relating to library resources and equipment.

The Handbook can provide answers to the following questions:

Checking Out Library Materials

• How many books can I check out at one time?
• Can I check out books from the AGTS Library if I am not an AGTS student?
• How long can I keep a borrowed book, video, or cassette?

SWAN and MOBIUS

• What is SWAN?
• How do I make online requests for books from SWAN libraries?
• Why are there two different online catalogs for SWAN and for MOBIUS?

Overdue or Lost Materials

• I have some items that are overdue. What are the library's policies concerning overdues?
• I have lost a book that I borrowed from the library. What should I do?

Locating Library Materials

• What sort of system does the library use to organize the books in the collection?
• How do I go about looking for videos and/or cassettes?
• How can I determine if a journal or a specific issue of a journal is available in the library?

Not Able to Locate a Needed Item

• I really need to look at a book that is currently checked out to someone else. Is there anything I can do?
• A journal article or a book that I really need for my research project is not available at AGTS or any other local library that I have searched in. What else can I do?

Student Computer Lab

• Are there any policies I should know about before working in the Computer Lab?
• Am I allowed to print out papers or items that I find online?
• I am not an AGTS Student. Am I allowed to use the computers in the lab?
• Am I allowed to check my e-mail in the Computer Lab?
• Are there any times that the Computer Lab will be unavailable?

General Questions

• My professor told me to look at a book or article that he/she has placed on "reserve." What should I do? What are the rules for borrowing an item on "reserve"?
• Is it possible to make photocopies in the library? How much does this service cost?
• Does the library provide equipment for listening to tapes and CDs?
• Does the library provide equipment for viewing videos?
• Are there any rooms I can reserve for group or individual study?
• I have just been informed that one of the books I have borrowed has been "recalled." What does this mean?
• I attend another school in the Springfield area. Are students from my school allowed to use the library? What are we allowed to do?
• I have heard that I can acquire copies of current and/or past chapel services from the library. Is this true?
• When I searched the periodicals holdings I kept coming across the terms "paper," "bound," "microfilm," "microfiche," etc. What do these terms mean?
• If I need to make a personal phone call while researching in the library, what should I do?
• Am I allowed to bring my children with me to the library?
• Am I allowed to bring food or drink into the library?
