The Dr. Stanley M. Horton
Scholarly Resources Endowment
& The Pillars of the Faith Initiative
The Dr. Stanley M. Horton
To honor Dr. Stanley M. Horton’s remarkable service to AGTS, to the Assemblies of God and to the greater Pentecostal community over the past seven decades, AGTS has initiated the Dr. Stanley M. Horton Scholarly Resources Endowment Fund, in conjunction with the Pillars of the Faith initiative. We invite you to help us reach our goal of $25,000 for this endowment. For those who contribute $125 or more, AGTS will send you a copy of Dr. Horton’s biography, Stanley M. Horton: Shaper of Pentecostal Theology.
Interest from the endowment will be used to purchase scholarly resources for the Cordas. C. Burnett Library at AGTS—specifically biblical-theological and biblical language resources, as these areas have been so important to Dr. Horton over the years.

About Dr. Stanley M. Horton
Dr. Stanley M. Horton, renowned scholar, prolific writer and worldwide lecturer, is recognized as Pentecostalism’s “premier theologian.” As a child of the Azusa Street Revival and Mission, Horton serves, in the words of General Superintendent George O. Wood, as a “bridge linking the Azusa revival to the present day.” As a Harvard graduate in 1945, Horton first taught at Metropolitan Bible Institute until 1948 before coming to Springfield, Missouri where he served as chair of the Bible Department at Central Bible College from 1948-1978. In addition to authoring dozens of books and over 250 articles and reviews, Horton wrote the Assemblies of God Adult Teacher Sunday school curriculum for over 25 years. Since 1991 he has been Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Bible and Theology at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, where he taught from 1978-1991. Even now in his 90s, he continues to serve the church.
About The Pillars of the Faith
AGTS has chosen to honor men and women who have dedicated their lives to serve Jesus Christ and have followed the call of God in ministry, missions and the training of ministers. We acknowledge their generous contribution to AGTS and its mission to shape servant leaders. The Pillars of the Faith initiative is a symbolic and meaningful way to honor these individuals.
Persons being honored have been nominated by the president and approved by the Board of Directors in addition to meeting the following qualifications:
- Dedicated the majority of his or her life to significant full-time ministry in the Assemblies of God.
- At least 65 years of age; a deceased person may be honored posthumously.
- An endowment totaling $25,000 or more to AGTS in honor of the minister.
Pillars of the Faith honorees are acknowledged prominently on a pillar located outside the AGTS Prayer Chapel.
Join us in continuing Dr. Horton's legacy of blessing the body of Christ with excellent scholarly resources!
