News: Off-Road Spiritual
Experiences
Opening up a new way of understanding spiritual
formation, Dr. Earl Creps, director of AGTS doctoral studies,
led participants on an “off-road” journey
through the content of his new book, Off-Road Disciplines:
The Spiritual Adventures of Missional Leaders, in a special
six hour seminar on October 27, 2006, in the AGTS chapel. A consummate
sherpa in missional leadership matters, Dr. Creps
guided the assembled tourists along less traveled paths to discover
that their footsteps are always preceded by God’s. Two
formative elements emerged; sacred accidents, those God-ordered
encounters that shape our perspectives in dynamic ways, and reverse
mentoring, wherein expertise for navigating contemporary
ministry challenges rests in the heads, hearts and hands of young
people.
The seminar, hosted by the AGTS offices of
Institutional/Alumni Relations and Continuing Education, drew
more than 150 students and church leaders from Missouri and
surrounding states. Commenting on how much he enjoyed the event,
and echoing numerous other voices, Dr. David Bundrick (M.Div.
1981), dean of students at Evangel University in Springfield,
called it “the
best one-day seminar I’ve ever attended!”
