CHIEF OF NAVY CHAPLAINS MEETS WITH CHAPLAINCY CANDIDATES
Chaplain Rear Admiral Robert F. Burt, chief of navy
chaplains, visited Springfield on December 3
to meet with area chaplaincy candidates. Chaplain
(COL) Scott McChrystal, the chaplain endorser
for the Assemblies of God, arranged
his visit.
Dr. Paul Wood,
chair of the Global
Missions Department at AGTS,
coordinated a luncheon for area chaplaincy
candidates and spouses, school administrators
and pastors. More than 35 chaplaincy candidates
from the area, most from AGTS, were present
and many took advantage of the question and
answer session with Chaplain Burt.
"Chaplain
Burt’s visit signaled the enormous interest that the Navy
and other military services have toward providing
the best spiritual leaders possible to minister
to their troops and families," said Chaplain Scott
McChrystal. "In repeated conversations with
me, Chaplain Burt voiced his delight that he
met so many talented and committed candidates
who will make enormous contributions to the
spiritual welfare of our military forces in the near future.
A number of candidates told me how impressed
they were with Chaplain Burt, especially that
he was so friendly and approachable."

AGTS chaplaincy candidate Jarrod Johnson commented,
"The Chief of Chaplains' visit to Springfield was a unique
experience of which I was privileged to be a
part. At our
luncheon, Chaplain candidates were able to hear
'straight from the source' the perspectives and
priorities that contribute to a fulfilling calling
in the military chaplaincy. Chaplain
Burt communicated the big picture for us in a
passionate and personal way that inspired and
increased our expectancy. His
love and excitement for chaplaincy ministry is
contagious."
