Congratulations to Peter Pyo for winning the $300 Phonathon scholarship this year! Peter's name was drawn from among other student caller names during a chapel service on October 2013.
Peter plans to become a chaplain in the U.S. Army and is currently a chaplain candidate with the New Jersey Army National Guard.
The Phonation is a wonderful opportunity to serve the seminary and get connected with other students and staff," said Peter. "It creates a sense of unity as we work together to better our school."
Of receiving the Phonathon scholarship Peter said, " It was a wonderful, unexpected surprise. It's a great way to show the [student callers] that the school values our voluntary efforts. It definitely makes me want to participate again next year!"
"To date, alumni have committed and given nearly $19,000 since the Phonathon on September 9 and 10—almost $3,000 more than was committed at this time last year. When all the gifts are in, we anticipate that number to increase to $24,000," said development coordinator Loralie Crabtree. "Donations toward student scholarships continue to come in daily."
Special thanks to Rosati's Pizza (3046 S. Kimbrough) for donating dinner for our student callers. Michelle Neumman (left) and Andre Davis (right) certainly enjoyed
In addition, each year the AGTS Development Office pursues partnerships with local businesses to provide coupons and gift certificates for callers who participate in the phonathon. This year business sponsors donated nearly $1,900 in free merchandise, meals, coupons and tickets. View a list of these generous sponsors.
"I am overwhelmed at the generosity of AGTS alumni who gave to student scholarships!" continued Loralie, a current student at AGTS. "I'm also very grateful for the students, faculty, administration and staff who volunteered to make phone calls. My educational experience at AGTS has been transformational. I'm glad other students will have the same opportunity as a result of these scholarships. Thank you, AGTS alumni!"
Alumni who want to contribute can still do so donating online or by mailing your check to AGTS with the code "AAF13" written on the check.
