AGTS News: AGTS well represented at annual meeting of the Society for Pentecostal Studies

Fourteen faculty members, alumni and students from AGTS and Evangel University participated in the annual meeting of the Society for Pentecostal Studies held March 21-23 in Seattle, Wash. The theme for this year's meeting was "Holiness."

Participants included:

Paul Alexander (AGTS alum, '95)

Craig Keener (AGTS alum, '85, '87)

Rosemarie Kowalski (AGTS Ph.D. ICS grad)

Doug Olena (Evangel adjunct professor)

  • Panelist: Discussion of Nimi Wariboko's Pentecostal Principle

Lois Olena (AGTS associate professor of practical theology and Jewish studies)

  • SPS Executive Director

Charlie Self, AGTS director of the Ph.D. in Bible and Theology Program and associate professor of church history, and Debbie Gill, AGTS professor of biblical studies and exposition, presented at the "Theology of Work and Economics" luncheon hosted by the Kern Family Foundation.

The 2014 meeting will be held at Evangel University, Springfield, Mo., March 6-8 with the theme "Hermeneutics and the Spirit: Identities, Communities, and the Making Meaning."

Individuals interested in Pentecostal/Charismatic renewal studies are welcome to attend these meetings. Membership requirements are outlined here:

SPS was founded in 1970 by three scholars, including the late Dr. William Menzies, who, over the course of his career, chaired the biblical studies department at Evangel and the Bible and theology department at AGTS. Menzies served as the first president of SPS and the first editor of its journal, Pneuma.
