Springfield, Mo.—November 4, 2009—In February of 2010, the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) will launch a concentration in professional coaching within the Doctor of Ministry and the M.A. in Christian Ministries degree. Upon graduation from AGTS, a participating student will fully qualify to submit portfolio application for a Professional Certified Coach credential with the International Coach Federation.
Students do not need to relocate or leave their full-time jobs. Classes are held in two-week modules on campus in Springfield, Mo., every nine months. Between modules, students read and write assignments, receive coaching, and practice coaching in fulfillment of class and certification requirements. Students will progress through the program with a cohort of other coaching students.
Participants will study with some of the finest Christian coaches in the world, including Jane Creswell (program director, founder of IBM Coaching and Managing Director for Purdue University's Organizational Coaching Cohort Leadership Development Lab), Linda Miller (global liaison for coaching, Ken Blanchard Companies), and Joseph Umidi (of Lifeforming Leadership Coaching and Regent University). Students will receive a broad and thorough exposure to coaching individuals, teams and organizations and have the opportunity to develop his or her own coaching specialty. The coaching concentration is designed not only to train coaching competencies, but also to provide the biblical/theological, psychological and ethical foundations that undergird a business or ministry in coaching.
“Coaching is powerful for both ministry and marketplace settings; a people-helping skill which resembles the way the Holy Spirit works in individuals to bring transformation,” said Dr. Deborah Gill, professor of biblical studies and exposition and designer/facilitator of the coaching cohort at AGTS. “We’re committed to raising up a cadre of Great-Commission professionals effectively equipped to use coaching in the ministries of the church as well as the marketplace.”
AGTS is offering this concentration through a joint venture with Purdue University’s Leader Lab. For more information about the coaching cohort at AGTS contact Dr. Deborah Gill (email@example.com, 417-268-1075) or go to http://www.agts.edu/more/coaching.
