AGTS receives grant from Kern Family Foundation

In spring 2008 AGTS received a $30,000 planning grant from the Kern Family Foundation in Waukesha, Wis. This grant is part of a new matching-grants initiative by the Kern Family Foundation titled “Leading Through Change: Innovation in Theological Schools.”

The purpose of the initiative is to strengthen evangelical seminaries accredited by the Association of Theological Schools through fresh thinking about how theological teaching, learning, research, governance and administration are done. AGTS is one of 10 seminaries selected to receive this planning grant. In 2009 the Kern Family Foundation will select up to five participating seminaries to receive matching grants up to $500,000.

The Chatlos Foundation, Inc., Longwood, Fla., has awarded AGTS a $21,180 grant for matching scholarships for six missionaries enrolled in the new Doctor of Missiology Program, reducing their tuition cost by 40%.

Mr. William F. Chatlos established the foundation in 1953. A native of Bridgeport, Conn., he built his first house at the age of 17 and continued building in Connecticut, New York and Florida until his death in 1977. He said, “You can’t measure your worth by the values we place on our possessions. A calamity of only a few seconds can change all of that. Real worth is determined by what you do with what you have, be it large or small.”
