News: Ray Gannon authors The Shifting Romance with Israel
Dr. Raymond Gannon (1982/1984), visiting professor of missions and Jewish studies at AGTS, wrote The Shifting Romance with Israel. Dr. Gannon has been a missionary for over 40 years and is the AG representative for Jewish ministries.
Focussing on AG Pentecostalism, this study reflects the larger Evangelical and Pentecostal drifting away from a strong bond to Zionism and the Jewish state. Gannon traces the sources for early 20th century Christian thinking as they relate to the future of national Israel as discovered in 17th century Puritanism, 18th century Post-Millennialism, and finally 19th century dispensationalism. The 20th century is historically partitioned to examine issues that produced years of rather dramatic changes. It traces the "shifting romance" with Israel to draw conclusions that might surprise its readers.
