AGTS News: Dr. Doug Oss appointed director of Ph.D. in Bible and Theology Program at AGTS

BundrickThe Board of Administration at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) has named Dr. Doug Oss (left) the new director of the Ph.D. in Bible and Theology Program effective August 1.

Previously, Oss has served as a professor and director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching at AGTS—two positions he will continue to hold.

"All of us recognize Doug's classroom effectiveness, Pentecostal commitments, scholarly production, collegiality, ministry connections and skillful leadership," said AGTS academic dean Dr. David Bundrick. "Together with his track record of planting three churches, these qualities reflect the practitioner-scholar model that highlights what is best about AGTS' contribution to the academy and the church."

BundrickOss is accepting the baton from Dr. Charlie Self (right), who will remain a professor of Church history at AGTS and will continue his work to develop new resources to educate our movement and the global church about the theology of work and economics—work made possible by generous grants from the Kern Family Foundation.

"We are deeply grateful for the entrepreneurial vision, persistence and diligent work of Dr. Charles Self in the establishment of the Ph.D. in Bible and Theology program some three years ago for AGTS," said Dr. Bundrick.

"Obtaining [Association of Theological Schools and Higher Learning Commission] accreditation for this level of a degree program was a landmark achievement in AG higher education," continued Bundrick. "for which we are thankful to the Lord, to the Ph.D. committee that worked with Dr. Self, and to Dr. Stephen Lim, who, as academic dean, provided leadership for this endeavor."

The Ph.D. in Bible and Theology at AGTS is designed to train scholars who will bring leadership to local churches and academic settings around the world. Concentrations include Biblical Theology, Old Testament Studies, New Testament Studies and Systematic Theology.
